Precise process measurement technology for biogas plants

Increase efficiency, protect the environment and maximise yields with MWM tec

The economic efficiency and stability of a modern biogas plant depend largely on precise substrate control. Fluctuations in dry matter content (DM content) jeopardise the delicate biology of the digester and place a strain on the entire plant’s technical systems.

With its MicroSinus measurement system, MWM tec GmbH offers a solution for this demanding measurement task: using the microwave transmission method, you can continuously determine the dry solids (TS) content and density of your media in real time, directly within the process. The measurement does not require optical transparency. Online values supplement the reference analyses and provide a basis for automated substrate control.

Key applications in the biogas process

Our system can be flexibly installed on pipework and tanks and optimises key stages of your energy production:

Feed-based feeding & substrate management

Measure the dry solids (TS) content of liquid media directly in the feed line. Together with the flow rate, the dry matter load can be determined. For feeding based on organic load, the organic content is also taken into account.

Recirculation and agitator control in the fermenter

Continuous monitoring of density and dry solids (TS) content in the bypass or recirculation loop reveals changes in substrate composition. The values assist in assessing mixing and agitator operation.

Improving efficiency in fermentation residue separation

The system measures the exact solids concentration directly upstream of the separator. This allows the addition of polymers (flocculants) to be metered fully automatically and precisely according to requirements.

Multi-frequency technology for substrate and recirculate

The microwave transmission method transmits microwaves through the water-containing medium in the pipe section. The multi-frequency technology ensures stable signal evaluation even with optically opaque substrates. The sensor arrangement, calibration and operating range are tailored to the substrate mix and the installation conditions.

Density and dry solids (TS) measurements form the basis for process evaluation. Viscosity, organic content and gas yield are independent parameters.
