What details clearly describe a measurement task?

A clear enquiry specifies the medium, the target parameter and the unit. For example, state whether you wish to monitor the dry matter content of a sludge, the concentration of a known solution or an operational Brix value. Simply stating ‘measure density’ is not sufficient if a dry mass fraction is actually required for process control.

Include the typical operating range and relevant limit conditions. If any data is still missing, specify the outstanding points. The glossary helps to distinguish between terms. The articles on density and concentration explain why reference parameters and composition are important for a technical assessment.

Which process conditions should you include?

  • Temperature range and typical variations during operation.
  • Pipework or vessel, available geometry and installation position.
  • Formulation variants, additional components and possible gas content.
  • Mixing, settling and indications of deposits.
  • Existing sampling arrangements and the laboratory method used.

A clear sketch helps to identify the measurement location. The sample should be representative of the medium at that point. When measuring a partial flow, the transit time and composition of the partial flow must also be taken into account. For vessels, it is important to ensure that the planned location captures a well-mixed state.

Why is the laboratory reference part of the enquiry?

Calibration links the process signal to the target variable. Reference values obtained using different methods or at different times can make comparison difficult. You should therefore describe the method and sample preparation. Where measurement data is available, the unit, time and associated operating condition are just as helpful as the numerical value.

What happens next after the task description?

On the project planning page, you will find the technical steps from installation and signal assignment through to verification using independent samples. The MicroSinus information outlines the available device functions. For any enquiries, please use the contact details provided.

What is the difference between the working range and the instrument scale?

The operating range describes the values that occur in the actual process and are to be tested. An adjustable display or a transferable signal range does not automatically confirm measurement capability for every concentration falling within it. You should therefore specify typical operating values and rare limit conditions separately. This makes it possible to clarify which conditions are relevant for calibration and for which the basic suitability must first be investigated.
