Measure density, concentration and total solids online

MWM tec develops and manufactures industrial microwave measurement technology in Karlsruhe. MicroSinus measures the density, concentration and total solids of water-containing media during production. Microwave transmission enables inline measurement in pipes and direct measurement in tanks.

From total solids measurement in sludge and concentration measurement in the sugar industry to pulp consistency measurement in paper production: MicroSinus supports a range of industrial measurement tasks. Further applications include dairy products, biogas substrates, molasses, stillage and sand slurries.

Our services include technical consultancy, commissioning, calibration and training. To assess your measurement requirements, details regarding the medium, the measurement range, the temperature and the installation conditions would be helpful.

Which process parameter would you like to monitor continuously?

A suitable measurement solution starts with the target parameter. Density, concentration and dry matter are often interrelated in familiar products, but they denote different parameters. Concentration may be crucial for a dilution stage; in a slurry pipeline, the dry matter content is often required. You should therefore first determine which value is intended to support decision-making during plant operation.

The glossary on process measurement explains these differences and links the fundamentals to practical measurement questions. The MicroSinus product page then describes the available measurement system. This allows you to assess the technical context and specific technical functions separately before planning a measurement point.

How does a measurement idea become a clearly defined task?

Describe the medium, the typical operating range and the location of the planned measurement. Include the temperature, recipe changes, possible gas content and the existing laboratory reference. The operational objective is also helpful: is the aim to monitor a trend, trigger a sample, or support an authorised control system? This information determines which requirements regarding response time and measurement value transmission are appropriate.

An online reading derives its value from the process context. A falling TS trend, for example, may indicate dilution, but must be cross-checked against inflows, pump operation and reference samples. Good planning therefore integrates the measuring instrument, the installation location and the handling of anomalous signals. It does not consist solely of selecting a percentage display.

Where can you find the next appropriate step?

Before operating values are automatically processed further, the operating range, comparison methods and behaviour during product changes should be clarified. Suitability is assessed on the basis of the actual medium. General instrument functions and application-specific verified results are different types of information.
